NO.033 - KHALIFA AHMED AL SUWAIDI BUILDING, SHEIKH RASHID BIN SAEED STREET

I originally assumed this building had been earmarked for demolition due to its current state. I was worried whether it would be no more by the time I got round to documenting it. But I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this is one of the buildings on the Department of Culture and Tourism’s Modern Heritage list, and even has a plaque to prove it!

I love the geometric approach to the form and facade, and the shameless expression of its materiality. There’s also a common thread with the Hamdan Centre (note the striped pattern to the concrete facade in places).

I can’t wait to see what happens to this building when it is re-purposed…
