NO.105 - AL AIN MUNICIPALITY BUILDING

Very much a sister project of the Abu Dhabi Municipality building (which was designed by fellow Bulgarian Dimitar Bogdanov of Technoexportstroy / Bulgarproject), The inception of this project predates that of the ADM building by a couple of years and is the first major success of the Bulgarian architects in the Emirates.

Following a competition launched in 1976 (three years prior to the ADM competition launch), the building was eventually completed in 1985 (the same year as the ADM building). There’s a very different language to this building from the Abu Dhabi one, but it very much holds its own as a piece of civic architecture.

Recently renovated internally, it’s well worth a visit (when the weather cools down!).
